Cette colonne, haute de deux mètres, est pourvue d’une fenêtre au niveau des yeux. A travers cette ouverture, nous pouvons distinguer de loin une lumière cathodique, nichée à l’intérieur de cette colonne. Attiré par ce point lumineux ou simplement par curiosité, en s’approchant le spectateur verra cette petite tache se transformer en un visage familier, le sien, se rapprochant rapidement, grossissant jusqu’à devenir un gros plan sur un détail de son propre visage. Le regardeur peut maintenant apercevoir un gros plan de son facies. En bougeant la tête, il pourra déplacer le gros plan sur un œil, sur son nez ou une autre partie de son visage. En sortant du champ de la machine, le spectateur renvoie l’image à son point d’origine. Le détail redevient un visage qui rétrécit jusqu’à disparaître dans une tache lumineuse.
Le spectateur est acteur. Il ferme la boucle du circuit vidéo. Il est le déclencheur de ce dispositif. Sans lui, la machine ne laisse rien voir. J.-P. P.
Two meters high, this column is equipped with a window at eye level. When the spectator looks through the opening he sees a cathodic light in the distance coming from inside the column. Attracted by this point of light or simply out of curiosity, the spectator approaches and sees this tiny spot transform itself into a familiar face, his own. The spot zooms in rapidly on the spectator’s face. He now sees a close-up of his face. Moving his head allows him to change the area seen close-up. By exiting the machine’s field of vision, the spectator sends the image back to its initial point. The close-up detail becomes a face that shrinks to the point of becoming a speck of light.
The spectator is actor. He completes the closed video circuit. He activates this device. Without him, the machine offers nothing to see. |
