The sea within

The core theme of the exhibition is the Sea, partly focusing on the idea of the Pier, both acting as symbols beyond their physical substance. The sea within us. A sea that connects and separates. That makes and breaks. The sea is paralleled with life, the wretchedness of the unconscious, the mind, the beginning, the end, the unknown; the pier being a manmade (un)breakable bond with the land, with security. A transitional point. The sea, with its daunting width and depth, might appear quite calm, but it can manifest into a raging and even deadly turmoil in an instant, drowning one or saving one at its bottom. A symbol of the essence of continuous movement and eternal repetition. Semiotically, the pier is particularly interesting as it creates a new space by integrating different parts. It accentuates a new bond, transforming the viewer's view into another reality. The dock can be perceived as a creative impetus, a vital push that constantly changes the order between heaven, earth and sea. Just like the lack of gravity, the pier is condemned to the mood of its surrounding nature, but tries to stay in the space it shapes. It does not extinguish the frontal space of the sea nor the terrestrial space from which it has emerged, but rather challenges them. It reveals another space, that of waiting. It is not the end of a process, but the beginning of another. This exhibition suggests that we meet in this other place. During transit, as in a pier, the visitor is invited to navigate in potential spaces between poetry, dream and illusion. Between earth, sky and sea. It is also called upon to question the permanence and sensitivity of the world and the status of the passage of its own existence. The artworks will create a visual map of experiences, views and feelings on this discussion. The exhibition aspires to act as a connecting cell between different artistic expressions (installation, painting, mixed media, photography), as well as between local and foreign artists.
